Ambassador Stewart remarks during 243rd Independence day Celebration.

Hello, everyone.  My name is Karen Stewart and I am the American Ambassador to the Marshall Islands.

Today, Americans are celebrating 243 years of the independence of our country.  This year the Marshall Islands also celebrates forty years of its own constitution as an independent nation.  Together we celebrate our commitment to liberty, democracy, and a free and peaceful world. This commitment ties together our two peoples in the special partnership that is the foundation of our work every day.

This is likely my last time to celebrate Independence Day in Majuro, but our shared history and values mean that I will never forget my experiences or the people here.  On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, allow me to wish all Americans in the Marshall Islands and all our Marshallese friends a Happy Independence Day!

Thank you.
