Two weeks of sports diplomacy kick-off with Coach Tom Newell, former coach of the NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks, who began his third visit to the Marshall Islands January 4, meeting with the Marshall Islands Basketball Federation (MBIF) to discuss the broad range of sports development in the RMI. He pivoted to lunch with the members of the RMI government following the opening of RMI’s 2015 Nitijela session, and took a high-percentage shot in the afternoon– a couple of different camps for boys.
The Coach reports the kids are sharper than ever, their skills have improved, and they are ready to take on tougher drills, and tougher opponents—like Guam!
The coach is also leading coaches clinics, and a 3×3 tournament at Lokjar.
Embassy Majuro has its own team who’s participating!
Coach Tom will be on Majuro untill January 12, then fly to Kwajalein and Ebeye until January 20.
