Global Project to Provide Laptops to RMI Students

The RMI Ministry of Education is using Compact funds to purchase one thousand special laptop computers through the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Project, an exciting initiative that will revolutionize education in the RMI.  The laptops will go to eight public elementary schools in the RMI, three schools in Majuro and five schools in the outer islands.  Currently thirty public elementary school teachers in Majuro are being trained to use the laptop computers.  The outer island teachers will receive training on the laptop computers next summer.  Delap Elementary School will be the first school in the RMI to use the new laptop computers in the classrooms and an official launching of the OLPC Project at Delap Elementary School is scheduled for January 2013.
