On October 30, Ambassador Armbruster met with representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to discuss their program in the Marshall Islands. In support of the USG disaster response and reconstruction responsibilities under the compact, IOM maintains a small operational staff in Majuro to manage a warehouse of prepositioned emergency relief supplies and develop the distribution system necessary for effective delivery of the supplies. The warehouse has reverse osmosis machines to produce clean water, generators, emergency health and hygiene kits and emergency shelter supplies. In the event of an emergency USAID/OFDA Disaster Assistance Coordinator Bart Deemer would work with the RMI Government and IOM to ensure that the emergency response is coordinated and effective.
