The Embassy’s Political/Economic officer met with Provan Crump, the Manager of the Marshall Islands Mariculture Farm (MIMF) on September 12 to discuss aquaculture in the RMI. MIMF, a subsidiary of the U.S. company Oceans, Reefs and Aquariums (ORA), has developed a successful export industry selling Aquacultured giant clams and coral to aquarium enthusiasts in the United States. Mr. Crump noted that business has been progressing well, with effective cooperation with RMI officials and U.S. environmental regulators. The facility is now working with MIMRA & Likiep atoll to expand its Clam Farming, which can provide employment and opportunities to key outer island communities.
