The RMI is contributing to scientific research in the upper atmosphere. NASA’s Dr. Joyce Winterton, Senior Advisor for Education and Leadership, spoke to College of the Marshall Islands students on April 22 about NASA’s sounding rocket program. An upcoming launch on Kwajalein Atoll will study “space weather” in the ionosphere. The launch is part of the “Equatorial Vortex Experiment.” The scientific objective is to measure electric fields, plasma velocity, winds, and plasma densities. While here, Dr. Winterton will visit several RMI schools and even help students build model rockets for their own experiments.
