General Formica, SGT Major Turner, President Loeak and Ambassador Armbruster unveiled the Louis Zamperini plaque dedicating the cafeteria at the U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll in Zamperini’s honor. Louis Zamperini, now 96, is a former Olympic athlete, Airman in the Pacific, and survivor of weeks at sea in a raft after his plane was shot down. He was imprisoned on Kwajalein and endured a brutal captivity. Zamperini is the subject of the bestselling biography “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. President Loeak and several of his ministers and a Senator attended the dedication and held talks with the Ambassador and General Formica reasserting the U.S.-Marshall Islands partnership that is essential to keeping the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Test Site operating. The Army Garrison on Kwajalein employs some 900 Marshallese who contribute to every facet of the bases’ operations and who are integral to the character of the base.
