Renew an Adult Passport

You may renew your passport with these instructions if all of the following are true:

Your most recent U.S. passport:

  • Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application
  • Was issued when you were age 16 or older
  • Was issued within the last 15 years
  • Was issued in your current name or you can legally document your name change

If any the above statements do NOT apply, you must appear personally before a consular officer:

If you have never had a U.S. passport before or if your old passport was lost, stolen, damaged, or expired over five years ago, please click here for instructions. 

If you are now over age 16, but your last passport was issued when you were age 15 or younger, please click here for instructions.

If all the above statements apply, please follow the instructions below:

Step 1:

  • Fill out and print Form DS-82 by clicking here (PDF Format – 81KB). You may also complete the form electronically by using the Passport Application Wizard by clicking here.  To view PDF files, you need a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat.  Get a free download from the Adobe website.
  • Check that you have read the Privacy and Computer Fraud and Abuse Acts Notices and Disclaims and click submit.
  • Print out the DS-82 form upon completion.  Make sure to include a valid email on the form.
  • Please note that some instructions and options on the form are only applicable in the United States.

Step 2:

Click here to schedule an appointment.  Use a valid email address and print your confirmation.

If you are not in Majuro and would like to mail your application to the Embassy, mail all documents and fees to the embassy at the following mailing address:

Step 3:

Please bring the following documents with you to your appointment. If you are mailing your application, please ensure that all the following documents and fees are included:

  • Completed and signed DS-82 application form
  • A printout of the email notification sent to you by the Embassy
  • Your most recent passport
  • One passport photograph:  The Embassy will reject any photographs that do not meet the specified requirements
  • Original and copy for Proof of Name change (if applicable)
  • The current fee for a DS-82 application. PLEASE NOTE: There is no additional expedite fee applicable to passports renewed at an overseas embassy or consulate.  If mailing the application, please include a valid Cashier’s Check from a U.S. bank in the correct amount payable to “U.S. Embassy, Majuro.” Personal checks and credit cards are NOT accepted. The U.S. Embassy does not recommend sending cash by mail.

Step 4:

Once payment has been made and application has been approved, the passport will be processed and delivered within 2-3 weeks. This includes the time it takes for us to transmit your passport application to the U.S., and receive the new passport. The expired U.S. passport (duly cancelled by the Embassy) will be delivered together with the new U.S. passport.
